Went to the library…
We went to the library and I got a stack of 9 books to read over the next few days. Looking forward to that.
Got a Margaret Weis “Dragonvard” trilogy and am starting with that. Read the first book today. It was “Eh.”
Oh… just a sidenote…
the more I think about it… the more I realize how much I truly hated “Epic Movie”.
Sigh… I need a new book to read…
I really need a new book to read!!
I finished “New Moon” by Stephanie Meyer the other day. VERY GOOD. I am really digging her writing.
I also reread the original Dragonlance series with author’s comments (Weis and Hickman). That was a great reread.
My husband is reading some Clive Cussler books. The series with “The Golden Buddha” that I got him for Christmas.
My daughter is rereading her Warriors series for the umpteenth time.
My son is reading (ugh!) Captain Underpants books.
Sigh… I need a new book to read.
Stone of Farewell…
All in all, it has been a wonderful lazy day. I have read Ender’s Game and this evening I was able to read “Stone of Farewell” Book 2 by Tad Williams.
It is a really good story, although in some places the plot seems to move along so slowly, and then in others (like at the end) it seems to zip along so quickly.
Tomorrow I need to go a major bookstore and get Book 3.
My daughter finished the “Warriors” books she is reading so she will probably need to pick up the next few in the series.
Honestly, some of my favorite memories of Christmas are receiving books and over the next few days, just getting comfy on the couch and reading them all. It is fun to see my daughter enjoying the same thing. Two birds of a feather, I suppose!
Books I have been reading…
Books were popular Christmas presents this year. I got two and my daughter got twelve. If you know me at all… TWO books isn’t nearly enough books for me. They are merely a paltry snack. But I have been enjoying them!
On Christmas night, I began reading “The Dragonbone Chair” by Tad Williams. Wow, great writing! I loved it and nearly completed it all in one sitting. I started it too late at night (around 9:30) and my eyes gave out about 3 AM. I picked it back up at 8:30 the next morning and had it finished by 10:00. I loved it and I eager to read the next book in the series!!
This morning I picked up “Ender’s Game” by Orson Scott Card. I had read this and loved it as a teen and I gave it to my daughter (who is 13) for Christmas. I wanted to quickly reread it since I knew it would be awhile before she would get to it. She is currently reading the “Warriors” series. (It has feline characters… I haven’t read it yet.)
Anyway, the book was as good as I remembered. I was surprised by the profanity though. Actually VERY surprised. I don’t see why adults feel the need to include profanity in books written for young teens. It is disturbing. It seems especially unnecessary considering how long ago this book was written. Back in the mid-80′s we were including profanity in young adult books? That is unfortunate. It seems as though adults just want to push kids into adulthood so quickly. Of course, I probably notice it more than most readers because I was raised in a house with parents who never swore and as an adult I have tried to emulate that.
Another young adult book I just recently read is called “Twilight” by Stephanie Meyer. WOW… I mean WOW! I had low expectations and actually was reading it to measure appropriateness for my daughter to read. I read it TWICE in one weekend. It was SOO engrossing and the love story between the two main characters was enthralling.
My sweet husband stopped by a bookstore and picked up book 2 of the Tad Williams series so I hope to start that this evening sometime. I hope it is as enjoyable as the first one!
